Finally all of the tweaking and tuning is beginning to show up in improvements in lap times! We were very happy with our practice and heat times and how the Kart was handling. With continued work throughout the day, we continued to get more and more grip and were abled to increase our over-all results. Before the bad news... we did move up one point in the standings and are now only 30 points out of 15th place, as we are striving toward our pre-season goal of a top 10 points finish in the Utah Championship Series.
Now the bad news... the picture above was taken about 2 seconds before disaster struck going into turn one at the end of the 1000 ft straight. As we were appraoching turn one, someone in the center of a 4-wide pack locked up their brakes and got out-of-shape. Needless to say this cause a cluster f@*k and I immediately shot to the left to avoid it. All within one second I saw the gap open on the left (which meant a late entry into the corner but approximately a 5-6 position gain on the field) I hit the gas and got as far laft as I could on the 32 foot wide straight and BAM!!! I was airborne! Someone chopped me and I launched over their Kart and came down on the right side of my beautiful machine.
Medical was on scene quickly and tok me to the care center where I was given a good once-over before I was released. My Kart is virtually destroyed.
I am on my way to the hospital now as things got worse throughout the night. This is no Advil fix I'm afraid. I should have the full results on the damage to my race machine on Tuesday. As for me... we will see what the docs say.
Until next time...
Scott
